on da roooad agaaaain...just can't wait to be on da rooad agaaaiiin...
Hey, y’all! Been a minute, ain’t it?
I’ve been a bit AWOL while I work on picking my entire studio up and moving it three hundred miles away (as I seem to do every half-year or so), and that’s sadly left my slot in the Datafruits schedule jazz-less while I play Jenga with my worldly belongings.
HOWEVER, after much tribulation and trials, I am more or less moved in, and we are back on the air this evening with another limited-time only three-hour goof Totally Legitimate Special Episode of The Jazz Program!
Anyways, onwards we go….
The Jazz Program Sez It’s Time To Mess Around And Test The Sound

If this looks familiar to you, it should; Track 11 off Mr Scruff's Ninja Tuna was actually included as a sample-track pack-in to Windows 7's Media Player. "Test the sound", indeed.
The Nineties brought us a lot of wonderful musical things – grunge, industrial dance, goa trance, liquid drum and bass…hell, y’all remember that one bit where everyone was obsessed with Gregorian Chant? I sure do and I never grew out of it. One of the best genres we got out of that period (in my opinion, which is correct) was trip-hop; started with 1991’s Blue Lines by Manchester legends Massive Attack, and carried well into the ’00s as well. Some of the best records of both decades, hell some of my favorite records of all time, fall into this lil subset of electronic downtempo.
And so, to commemmorate me moving into the new digs and totally not because I have no plans for this evening and totally not because I didn’t pack my microphone yet and won’t be able to do bumps or anything, don’t question it….we’ve got a good selection of some of the finest trip-hop the ’90s had to offer. From Moorcheeba to De-Phazz, from Mr. Scruff (the title of this lil theme night comes from the opener to his 2008 heater Ninja Tuna, if you weren’t aware) to Massive Attack, we’ve got it all and we’re spinnin’ it all.
Come for the jazz music, stay for the trippy vibes. Slap on your Boodo Khans and get your head right with us.
That’s all for this week! Thank you so much for reading, and I do hope you enjoy tonight’s show…half-assed as it may be. Look man, moving’s a lotta damn work and sometimes you gotta just sit back and listen to some De-Phazz.
Speaking of which: if you’re reading this the day of, and you can make it in tonight, you should come hang out in the chat with us on Datafruits! We’ve got a good crowd of folks in the chat every week, and whether you have a suggestion for a future show or just want to hang out and chat with fellow jazz enjoyers, you’re welcome here with us.
You’re all amazing and don’t let anyone tell you that you’re not. Stay safe out there, and I’ll see you back again next week. Same time, same station: on datafruits dot fm..
