PASS THE CIGARS BOYS, AND LEMME TELL YOU ABOUT THE QUAALUUUUDES -- the big man from brooklyn nero wolfe, probably

Talkie Time : New Adventures Of Nero Wolfe - The Impolite Corpse / The Hasty Will

It’s been a minute since we’ve heard some of my favorite Big Man on this program, and oh will you just look at the time.

That’s right, folks, it’s a big man’s show tonight. Nero (and Archie, of course) are back on Talkie Time this week, and we’ve got a couple classic snark-filled murder-fests for you this evenin'.

First up, it’s “The Impolite Corpse”, originally aired December 8, 1950, and featuring everyone’s favorite lead: a CEO dickhead gets iced. Sadly, Nero does, in fact, solve this case, but it is at least refreshing to hear that a shithead C-suite gettin’ bumped off was still considered prime storytelling even seventy five years ago. Some things never change.

After that, it’s “The Hasty Will”, originally aired on March 2, 1951, in which Archie and Nero find themselves with a signed will for a living man and a thousand dollars in Nero’s beer-and-snackies fund. Hijinks, mistaken identities, and possibly-murder (of course) ensue. Embezzlement? Perhaps. It’s anyone’s guess, really.

If you'd like some supplimental viewing to this evenin's program, check out this fantastic live performance of "Tricorn" from the 2003 Tokyo Jazz Festival.

The Jazz Program: Kazumi Watanabe New Electric Trio – Mo’ Bop 1, 2, and 3

There are very few musicians as prolific of Kazumi Watanabe. With eighty-four releases to his name and nearly four hundred liner credits (according to Discogs, anyways), this guitarist is a veritable juggernaut of Japanese jazz-rock.

Tonight, we’ll be looking at just five short years of his career, encapsuled in three records with the same name–Mo’Bop 1, 2, and 3, all released on EWE Records in ‘03, ‘04, and ‘06, respectively. Cuban drum wizard Horacio Hernandez and Cameroon’s own Richard Bona round up the rhythm section for this fantastic trio.

If you like your jazz rocking and your solos quick and bumpin’, you owe it to yourself to tune in this evenin’ and get your bop on–we’ve got mo’ than enough bop for you to handle.

…okaay fiiiine, i’ll see myself out

That’s all for this week! We’re finally back on the air after a rough August, and hopefully we’ll stay that way for a good while, with all-new program comin’ at you live from the great city of Chicago!

By the way: if you’re reading this the day of, and you can make it in tonight, you should come hang out in the chat with us on Datafruits! We’ve got a good crowd of folks in the chat every week, and whether you have a suggestion for a future show or just want to hang out and chat with fellow jazz enjoyers, you’re welcome here with us.

You’re all amazing and don’t let anyone tell you that you’re not. Stay safe out there, and I’ll see you back again next week. Same time, same station: on datafruits dot fm..
