Talkie Time and The Jazz Program WILL NOT BE HEARD TONIGHT…It’s Time For My Yearly Birthday Show!!!
That’s right, it’s time once again for that one show a year where we celebrate the birthday of your favorite radio DJ on your favorite radio station.
That would be yours truly, on datafruits dot fm.1 In that order.
Last year, we played a long, rambling playlist of all of the favorite tracks I had listened to in the previous 12 months, spanning from Amorphis to Agalloch to Aesop Rock. This year, though, we’re doing something a bit different.
I’ve been on a bit of a gothic rock kick as of late while riding my bike around town, you see, and I also ended up staying up for 22 straight hours yesterday editing photos and writing away for my latest Assigned Media protest coverage joint. As a result, I’m a tad bit tired, and while I could sit down at the wheels of steel and spin tracks for three hours that sounds a bit hard to manage at the moment.

You know what’s always easy, though?
Dead girls, baby. Dead girls are easy.
They just wanna rock, you know? And while I ain’t dead yet, I sure am dead tired and I do love to rock, so some Catholic-schoolgirl-skirt-shakin’ goth nonsense sounds like a good enough birthday party as any for me.
Your favorite swoopy hair emo-ass birthday cat has a selection of five some of the most coffin-shattering, bass-voice rattlin’, gothic butt rock records queued up for y’all this evening. From 69 Eyes to HIM to Type O Negative, we’ll be in that black light trance and go-go-dancin’ all night.
So tune in and join me in death–er, on the air–tonight, and help me celebrate somehow surviving long enough to reach my mid-thirties with the closest thing Shrimp Shake will ever get to letting me turn this place into Emo Night.
And that’s about the long and short of it! We’ll be back to regular ol’ jazz-and-talkies next week, I promise. I mean, come on. I only have one birthday a year, and nobody other than me wants to listen to Ville Vallo two weeks in a row.
As always, if you’re reading this the day of and you can make it in tonight, you should come hang out in the chat with us on Datafruits! We’ve got a good crowd of folks in the chat every week, and whether you have a suggestion for a future show or just want to hang out and chat with fellow jazz enjoyers, you’re welcome here with us.
You’re all amazing and don’t let anyone tell you that you’re not. Stay safe out there, and I’ll see you back again next week. Same time, same station.

Assuming I do my job decently well enough, regular listeners should have heard the previous two sentences in my cigar-smoke-laden radio voice in their head. :P ↩︎
