#0013: This Week On The Air–March 11, 2025

I go over our planned programming for the second week of March, 2025. Another re-run week, sadly, but we've got the Greatful Dead and stories about Nazis getting iced. So it's not all bad.

Hey, y’all! Hope you’re doing your best this week. It’s Tuesday, so it’s time for yet another program schedule for tonight’s show on datafruits.fm!

Unfortunately, I’ve been having a fairly rough go at things this past week, so we’re falling back on re-runs again. Don’t worry though–they’re some damn good ones. Here’s what we’ve got going on…

Talkie Time : Talkie Time : Mysterious Traveler - Death Is The Visitor / Death Comes To Adolf Hitler

(This program schedule was originally aired March 12, 2024; if you’re wondering about the constant gags at Henry Kissinger’s expense, that’s why. Also, it’s never not a good time to celebrate Kissy-Poo being dead and in hell.)

We haven’t done much on the program to celebrate the wonderful accomplishments of our good friend, The Grim Reaper, since he finally managed to achieve his lifelong goal of pulling everyone’s least favorite hell-bound war criminal out of the claw machine and out of our mortal plane.

So, today, we’ve got two episodes of The Mysterious Traveler featuring our good hooded friend, as he goes and gets Hitler’s ass and some other sad sappy sucker while he’s at it. Narrated, as always, by everyone’s favorite train-travelin’ mystery man, played by the one and only Maurice Tarplin.

First off, we’ve got “Death Is The Visitor”, originally aired on August 25, 1946, a tale about one of the most terrifying things known to man–overbearing mothers-in-law. And murder, of course. Can’t be going out and having a show about murder without the murder, now. Mother wouldn’t like that much.

Next up, we’ve got “Death Comes For Hitler”, originally aired on March 14, 1945, in which Hitler gets his ass shoved on a U-boat to hell only to end up at the bottom of the ocean, tortured by ghosts.

I’m not sure what Kissinger’s up to in hell, but I’d imagine he’s stuck in something similar. I’d say it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy, but let’s be honest here, most nice guys don’t directly cause genocides. Our current admin may want to take notes here.

Anyways, I’ll let Vulo take it from here. On to jazz we go.

The Jazz Program: The Grateful Dead And Ornette Coleman - Live at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, 2/23/93

Rest in peace, Jerry. We're all still living in that dream you dreamed one afternoon.

(This program schedule was originally aired March 20, 2023)

The Grateful Dead might not be known for being a jazz act themselves, but they toured with more than a few jazz legends in their time. Jerry (rest in peace to one of the greatest) and the crew have shared the stage with the likes of Branford Marsalis (fantastic sax player, brother of Wynton Marsalis, the world-famous trumpeteer, and son of Ellis Marsalis Jr., pianist extrordinare), David Murray (New York based legendary saxophonist), and Charles Lloyd (west-coast based flautist and tenor saxophonist), as well as tonight’s feature–the legendary Ornette Coleman.

We’ll be playing a live tape from the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, a night that featured Ornette opening the show with Jerry joining him onstage later on and Ornette returning the favor near the end of the Dead’s set. This set is an absolute must listen for jazz cats and deadheads alike.

That’s about all we’ve got for this week! Thank you all for reading, and as always I do hope you tune in live and hang out in the chat with us on Datafruits! We’ve got a good crowd of folks in the chat every week, and whether you have a suggestion for a future show or just want to hang out and chat with fellow jazz enjoyers, you’re welcome here with us.

You’re all amazing and don’t let anyone tell you that you’re not. Stay safe out there, and I’ll see you back again next week. Same time, same station.

Have a good one.
