piper irl It’s the first Tuesday in January, and after a two-hour Rippingtons marathon to test the sound last week I think it’s about as good a time as any for Talkie Time and The Jazz Program to hop back on the airwaves.
For now, I’m going to primarily be re-playing some of my favorite show programs from the original “second run”1 of the program. These aren’t going to be rebroadcasts, mind–none of the original shows were archived, an intentional choice I made at the time to avoid dealing with my discomfort with my voice.

WHAT YEAR IS IT?????? It’s been a whole year since I updated this, ain’t it?
Shit.
me in 2024
Well, later rather than sooner, but the blog is back. At the moment, I’m mostly going to use this to host The Jazz Program/Talkie Time show schedules since (after another and completely separate long hiatus) I’m back on the air doing those as well, as well as some photo rolls for the photography work I’ve been doing.

Autumn █████████ and I went out on Christmas Eve to get both of us out of our heads a bit and for me to go shooting. Here's a little sample of what Imogen and I shot today. All of these were edited with Darktable on Linux Mint.
Some pretty goosies. the gooses are on the looses! Keeping watch.
I took a few of the geese on the lake. This one's my favorite, to be honest.

Old Photo Roll 09 - Jazzy Fuckin' Holidays 2023 Poster Process

Drafting, Pencilling, and Inking Starting in on pencils. The lettering and all that was done (as always) on graph paper and glued up as I went; for a more in-depth look at how I do that, check out this process thread. Here's the rest of the lettering, glued up and into place. Starting in on inks. Two passes later. I was originally going to black the entire poster's background out, but I decided to sketch in some variations in tone for the sky and trees as opposed to simply a blacked-out sky covered in snow.

Initial pencils and lettering. Starting in on inking. First and second pass of inks down. I wanna point out here that the lil' guy there in the witch's hand was designed by Datafruits' own Zaxy. His name is Beamsprout, if you were curious. As with nearly everything else, I'm doing the lettering by hand.
Inking the lettering... ...gluing it into place... ...and affixing it to the drawing. Yet another pass of inks.

Polyhymnia was supposed to be a service dog for my autism and PTSD, but the training she was supposed to get never actually happened. So now she’s just my favorite dumbass who tries her best. Here’s yet another gallery worth of cute photos of her over the years.
hey, how ya doin' lik lik lik. One of the last photos of her in our old apartment. Poly doesn't like the new apartment that much, and she's been a lot more picky about what she wants to eat.

Falling down a rabbit hole. Most of these suggestions came from my good buddy Miranda Thomas, who thankfully and helpfully suggested KEH as a reputable used reseller. Which is good, because I sure don't have new-camera money.
A glamour shot, taken with my old Oneplus 7 Pro that I've used for the past few years. Imogen is named after Imogen Cunningham, if anyone was wondering.
A couple of the first photos I ever took with Imogen here.

Part one of a series of progress photo galleries of me working through Our Lady Maven, Issue 2.
Hand-lettering, as usual. It's how we do it here. Pencilling in a facsimile of the Chicago skyline. Roughing in the other two panels. Blocking in the kids with some more rough pencils. I'm using a General's carpenter's pencil here to scratch in some shading to mark where I'm going to put some thick swatches of black ink.

I’ve been telling stories and creating work for what is basically my entire adult life, and this is where I’ve decided to place my thoughts on doing so, as well as ramblings about life in general.
This blog is mainly where I write about things that hold my interest, and is also where I put notes on books, records, and other such things that I’m working on.

Note: This FAQ page is a constant work in progress, as is most of the site. As I get new questions, think of things I might want to make sure my readers know, and invent new answers and/or questions for those answers, I’ll be adding them here. If you can’t find an answer to whatever it is that you’re curious about, send me an email and I might just add it here.

The following are links to websites of folks I think are cool.
Note that I said websites, not accounts. I don’t want to use this page to promote social media networks, and the vast majority of folks (specifically, other cartoonists/DJs) who I know all have social media accounts in place of a website, so this list shouldn’t be considered an exhaustive compendium of folks I think are neat.
f you’re not on this list but think you should be, I probably can’t find your website or I haven’t gotten around to adding you yet because I’ve been busy with other obligations.
